  • Overview

    PRA's Early Development Services (EDS) group, is one of the business units within PRA Health Sciences that provides comprehensive services such as Phase I and IIa Clinical Research, Bioanalytical research and Data support.


    Over 1100 professionals working from different countries make up the PRA's Early Development Services team and work together to get the best result. We have several Clinical Pharmacology Units (CPU) and Bio Analytical Labs, located across the world, where we perform research into the effects and possible side effects of medicines. This is done with the help of volunteers both healthy volunteers and patients.



    PRA’s cutting-edge early phase research facilities in The Netherlands have a total capacity of 140 beds (including a  24 beds Intensive Pharmacology Unit) divided between two CPUs, and represent one of the largest Phase I/IIa CPUs in Europe. Both locations have a direct connection to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit to further ensure patient safety and are supported by our own state of the art double sized GMP pharmacy and expanded, fully automated Central lab.

    In the units we offer the entire range of human pharmacology study services, and support a wide variety of highly specialized techniques, such as cognitive testing, spirometry, cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) sampling, validated pain models, 14 C radiolabeled ADME studies, intensive cardiological monitoring, genotyping, positron emissions tomography (PET), and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans.

    For our state of the art Clinics in the Netherlands we are looking for a


    Medical Director


    In this position you will

    • Be responsible for the medical safety of all the subjects that participate in our studies in the Netherlands.
    • Play an important leadership role in assessing whether a compound will be tested in our clinic.
    • Assess safety data during the conduct of the study.
    • Represent PRA towards customers on medical safety aspects of studies.
    • Possibly manage our Research- and Screening Physicians.



    • MD degree, BIG registration or international recognized equivalent
    • Additional degree in Internal Medicine, Intensive Care or equivalent (e.g. Cardio, Nephrology)
    • Clinical Pharmacology degree / knowledge preferred
    • Recent clinical experience
    • Work office based from the unit in Groningen, the Netherlands
